Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 900 scientists, students and professional staff.


About Corporate Affairs and Fundraising:


The Corporate Affairs and Fundraising (CAF) team is responsible for positioning, promoting and protecting QIMR Berghofer, as well as raising vital funding through philanthropic endeavours, corporate partnerships and community engagement to support the remarkable life-saving work of the Institute's researchers.

The CAF team is focused on delivering high quality media, marketing, government relations, community engagement, communications, events, fundraising and philanthropy activities, aligned to the Institute's strategic objectives.


Role Purpose / Responsibilities:


The Manager Media, Communications and Government is responsible for raising awareness of the Institute and its achievements, protecting and enhancing QIMR Berghofer's reputation through a range of communications and engagement programs, and contributing to the Institute's fundraising efforts.

It promotes and aligns the corporate narrative across all channels, with a focus on both internal and external communications.


The aim of the position is to maximise positive coverage for the Institute through general, specialist media and digital platforms.

It supports the Institute's culture by driving staff engagement through the development and implementation of the Internal Communications strategy.

The position takes a leadership role in issue and crisis management and builds strong relationships and communication lines with journalists, media advisers, researchers, senior managers and other internal and external stakeholders.


About you:

You are required to have;

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations or other relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing successful media and communications plans and strategies
  • Significant experience in media, communications, government relations and stakeholder engagement
  • Significant experience in identifying and mitigating risks, along with issue management capability
  • Network of media contacts and established relationships
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to write with clarity and flair for different target audiences, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, persuasive and influencing abilities, effective listening, good judgement, diplomacy and tact
  • Highly organised, with the ability to balance competing priorities, meet tight deadlines and stay calm under pressure
  • Welldeveloped leadership skills and demonstrated experience in developing high performance teams

Remuneration:
This is a full-time, permanent position. The salary range is $127,883 to $137,221 p.a. plus super and salary packaging.
