  • Share your real-life experience to support families & carers in your community
  • Join the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria
  • Residents of Bairnsdale, Traralgon, and Wonthaggi are welcome to apply

About the Program

Following a key recommendation from the Royal Commission, the role of families and carers is crucial in the mental health system's functioning and sustainability.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centres (MHWBC Centres) are a vital component of the integrated services in the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria.

These services will mainly be provided by individuals with personal experience as carers, offering support to families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, distress, illness, or substance use concerns.

About the role

As a Family Peer Worker, you will use your real-life experience to partner with families, friends, and carers, understanding their experiences and providing customized support. You will assist participants in developing tailored action plans, addressing unique support needs, and contributing to their overall wellbeing. Additionally, you will lead network meetings and provide group intervention training to enhance carers' capabilities.

To succeed in this role, you need:

  • Personal experience in caring for someone with mental health challenges or distress
  • Relevant certification or qualifications in the mental health or social science field
  • Understanding of family dynamics and carers' impact on health and wellbeing
  • Ability to establish empowering partnerships with individuals, families, and carers

You will also require:

  • Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel
  • Working with Children Check and NDIS Workers Screening
  • Right to Work in Australia
  • Clear National Police Records
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate

What we offer:

  • A purpose-driven culture promoting respect and diversity
  • An inclusive and equitable work environment
  • Salary packaging options
  • Annual leave loading
  • Paid parental leave
  • Employee Assistance Program for you and your family

Wellways is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals. Successful applicants will undergo a thorough screening process before starting.

About the Company
