Job Description

Yumbah Aquaculture is quickly becoming Australia's leading shellfish aquaculture company. The business operates nationally in some of the most pristine waters of Australia including Tasmania, Victoria, and South Australia. We farm abalone, oysters, and mussels for both domestic and international consumer markets as well as oyster spat for the Tasmanian and South Australian oyster industry.

We are poised for an exciting growth phase on several fronts through a focus on driving organic improvement by margin optimisation through sales execution, farming optimisation, lease and site development to increase capacity, and further acquisitions. An opportunity now exists for a Quality and Compliance Manager to join our team based in Adelaide, South Australia.

About the Role

The Quality and Compliance Manager is responsible for driving the quality and compliance strategy, overseeing the implementation of the requirements, policies, procedures, programs, audits and training components to reduce risks and ensure safety of our products for customers and consumers.

As a specialist partner to our sites, you will look to continuously improve Yumbah's compliance and alignment to the required standards and quality management systems, with the compliance team and site team members owning the management of site-based processes and practices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Quality & Compliance

  • Oversee the Compliance function to the required standard for all products at all of Yumbah's Processing sites and 3rd Party processors.
  • Work with the various site quality personnel in the management of quality systems and continuous improvement in production areas, including managing customer complaints.
  • Oversee internal and external quality audits ensuring all corrective actions are executed to maintain Compliance and adherence to the company's' high standards.
  • Ensure all product is being produced to specific Customer specifications
  • Provide interpretation of Microbiological and Sensory tests for relevant business heads
  • Maintain good communication and working relationships with the relevant accreditation agencies and consultants.
  • Manage the formation and review of company policies, procedures, and work procedures as it relates to quality and compliance.
  • Understand, update and manage export quality requirements and certifications for all markets (domestic and international). Keep Sales & Marketing updated of changing import requirements.
  • Follow up on all CAPA's (corrective and preventative actions) for all audit reports performed to ensure compliance to Yumbah's requirements.
  • Monitor the KPI for deviation and CAPA
  • Provide continuous improvement on all quality control requirements and processes
  • Maintain the Quality and Compliance Database

New Product Development

  • Assist the Product Development Manager to design and deliver new products and implement procedures and testing to ensure products meet relevant food safety standards.
  • Ensure NPD is food safe and food packaging is compliant for relevant markets

Training & Development

  • Act as training coordinator across all sites to ensure changes and updates are aligned across the sites

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Degree in Food Science/ Food Technology or similar
  • 5 years previous experience in Food Safety & Compliance
  • Working knowledge and experience with various types of Food Processing Accreditations and understanding of Codex Alimentarius.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Good technical capability and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong planning & organisational skills
  • Strong Leadership skills to drive accountability and quality culture
  • Ability to interpret microbiological testing and audit outcomes
  • Understanding of the issues with operating in remote locations.
  • Understanding of Domestic and Export requirements for ready-to-eat foods.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
