About ARWA:


The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA) is leading the responsible management and safe storage and disposal of Australia's radioactive waste.

A key element of ARWA's program is the delivery of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility which will provide a purpose-built, engineered solution to manage radioactive waste from sources such as nuclear medicine production.


We are seeking people who have the skills and experience to put Australia at the forefront of the global nuclear waste management field.

  • Extensive experience in, or a sound understanding of transport and packaging of radioactive materials.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of operating plant and equipment in a highly regulated and hazardous environment.
  • Extensive relevant experience in managing projects within a highly regulated industry/environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in training, mentoring, and sharing knowledge with team members.
  • Demonstrated experience strategically managing effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Welldeveloped written and verbal communication skills, in particular the demonstrated ability to provide sound advice and prepare written reports and briefings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of workplace culture that embraces safety and security and is collaborative and inclusive.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills that foster trust and cooperation, and a proven ability to work effectively and with integrity within a politically sensitive environment.
  • An ability to work in a fluid environment, remaining flexible, agile, and adaptable supporting colleagues at short notice.
  • A valid Australian driver's licence.
  • Sound understanding of Commonwealth Government processes.
  • Experience in, or a sound understanding of, the radioactive waste management industry.
  • Experience in, or a sound understanding of international radioactive waste management supply chain.
  • Experience in managing radioactive waste management projects or programs.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Waste Management, Environmental Management, Engineering, Science, Technology, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline or related field and/or equivalent industry experience (desirable).

Eligibility:

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement.
