About us

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government.

We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses.

We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role

We have an opportunity for an individual to join us as Planning and Risk Officer on a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months.

This role is part of the Corporate Performance team which sits within the People and Governance Branch.

The Corporate Performance team delivers valued professional services to the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and Department of Government Services (DGS), and provides advice in numerous areas including business planning, governance and compliance, risk management, business continuity, supporting Parliamentary processes (PAEC), internal audit management, Audit and Risk Committee secretariat, and integrity.


Key Accountabilities include:

  • Being responsible for a number of business management projects across business planning, portfolio reporting, risk management and integrity streams.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of business management practices that facilitate the achievement of the DTF and DGS objectives and strategies.
  • Contributing to the review and implementation of continuous improvement activities for the team's products and processes.
  • Research and prepare briefing papers, reports and correspondence.
  • Engage broadly across the Department and employ stakeholder relationship management strategies to ensure all projects meet business requirements.

About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to manage a set of competing priorities, contributing to a dynamic and flexible team workload.
  • Ability to collect and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills supported by stakeholder management abilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with detailed information, draw links between various information and to question information provided.
  • Knowledge of the Department's budget and reporting processes, understanding of risk management frameworks, and awareness of the Department's business model is desirable but not essential.
