The Senior Policy Officer role will support the design and implementation of a new vision for the Victorian alcohol and other drug (AOD) system where, as Victorians, we are supported to make decisions in relation to AOD use that help us lead a life we value.

The role will support short to long term reform strategy, undertake research and generate insights, policy development, briefing on reform and policy options, and contribute to cross government strategic AOD-related projects and initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will be a high performing team member with strong strategy and/or policy development and systems thinking skills; complemented by superior communication, problem solving, and project management capabilities.

You will also have experience in undertaking analysis and presentation of data to inform government decision making, along with the ability to work flexibly to respond to a range of emerging issues and evolving priorities.

How you'll make a difference:

You will be able to build (or may have existing) strong relationships with AOD stakeholders and develop options and creative, implementable recommendations, in partnership with the sector.

You will also have the ability to work within and understand highly complex health systems and government processes, ideally having done so in AOD and/or related social policy or public health portfolios.

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate: Contribute to strategic policy development within the alcohol and other drugs system, including undertaking research and developing recommendations.

Provide high quality policy advice, options and recommendations to senior management and government based on comprehensive research and analysis.

Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, and Cabinet submissions.

Manage key unit projects to include setting up, monitoring and managing contracts with external providers to ensure high quality outputs are delivered within agreed timeframes and budget and results can inform policy development.

Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives and contribute to relevant committee and governance processes.

Forge strong connections across the department and with the AOD sector to share information and facilitate a partnership approach to implementation of key initiatives.

Coordinate and develop complex briefing products for Cabinet, Ministerial, senior departmental executive and executive sector stakeholders.

Work across multiple projects, including engaging with stakeholders, and working in multidisciplinary teams to meet emerging pressures and demands, as required Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
