  • Relevant librarian qualifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trends and developments in library and information services and the appropriateness within an educational setting.
  • Wide knowledge of young adult literature and the ability to promote and foster reading.
  • High level of knowledge and experience with library computer systems and on line library supports.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to contribute to the ongoing development of an organisation; as well as the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • High level of organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Role:

  • Requires specialist professional knowledge, understanding and expertise related to the tasks within a library in an educational setting;
  • Ability to perform a management role that coordinates tasks, policies, standards, practices and systems within a library;
  • Requires experience in monitoring work flows and developing local strategies or work practices for library staff;
  • Possess reasonable autonomy in determining operational work priorities and schedules against defined plans and priorities, which will include the direction of library technicians.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the college library team:

  • Provide effective and efficient information services appropriate for a contemporary educational setting;
  • Ensure that appropriate resources are in place to support the College's teaching program;
  • Evaluate, with a view to improving, the effectiveness and flexibility of information services in meeting College and student needs;
  • Prepare and implement a Library Program Budget according to the College's policies;
  • Supervise and allocate tasks to Library technicians.
  • Supervise students within the Library during recess and lunchtime breaks, alongside teaching staff.

Location Profile:

Copperfield College is a multi-campus school situated in Melbourne's North-West.

The College is comprised of two junior campuses (Years 7-10) in Kings Park and Sydenham and a senior campus (Years at Delahey.

We have a student population of approximately 2100, with 180 (EFT) teaching staff, 70 (EFT) Education Support Staff and 7 Principal Class personnel
.

The SFOE for the College is 0.58, indicating a significant level of social disadvantage.

The College is culturally diverse, reflecting our community, with approximately 60% of our students coming from a Language Background other than English.

Copperfield performs to expectations and better on many measures in comparison with 'like' schools; in particular, our VCE performance.

The College also emphasises the importance of a robust co-curricular and student leadership program. Copperfield has had a stable International Student Program and there are currently 24 international students across the College.

English as an Addition Language (EAL) is taught at all campuses as are two LOTEs, one of which is supported by a 20 year old sister school relationship with Fuji Junior High School in Japan.
