An exciting opportunity exists to join one of Victoria's most established education and training providers, Box Hill Institute (BHI), as our Media and Communications Writer (Lead).


About the role


In this role, you'll work closely with the PR and Communications Manager, developing and executing impactful media campaigns to help us raise our profile across owned and earned channels.


As a key member of the team, you'll be responsible for supporting our media relations, corporate communications and content development initiatives.

You'll build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, plan and manage media events such as press conferences and interviews, as well as monitoring media coverage to help us stay across key issues.


With a clear understanding of our brand and values, you'll also help ensure all written content is consistent with our tone of voice and help bring other stakeholders along on our journey.

Your speed, accuracy and adaptable writing will also be essential to helping manage our crisis communications as well as larger projects like our annual report.

This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity and salary is $98,244 (PACCT 8.1) per annum, excluding superannuation.

About you

Experience

  • Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in media relations, public relations, or corporate communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of the news landscape, and a proven history of developing media contacts.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing media campaigns, securing positive news coverage
  • Experienced in crisis communications and issues management.

  • Strategic mindset, with the capability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and adapt to a fastpaced environment.

Interpersonal skills

  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to interact, influence and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.

Project management

  • Proactive and selfstarting, seizes opportunities and acts upon them whilst taking responsibility for own actions.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
