About the role:

  • The Directorate of Strategic Communications Sustainment (DSCS) within the Defence Strategic Communications Branch (DSCB) is responsible for providing engineering support, Transition into Service (TiS), Transition of Support Responsibilities (TSR), technical assurance and project advice services in support of the branch's engineering activities.

DSCS has identified a requirement for a DAAR to assist with the delivery of its responsibilities and contribute to Defences strategic outcomes through the provision of well-designed, supported and secure ICT that enable critical information exchange within Defence and to our coalition partners.


The DAAR is responsible for:

Accepting a design or design change as fit‐for‐purpose, safe, environmentally compliant and accreditable on behalf of Defence (Design Acceptance)
Authorising variations to maintenance activities for ICT systems and services within the scope of their responsibilities
Establishing and managing a technical management process for systems and services for which the DAAR has technical responsibility
Providing advice on technical integrity matters, including the suitability for acceptance of systems and services into operational service
Advising the service owner, CTO and Technical Assurance Authority (TAA‐ICT) if an executive decision threatens technical integrity of an ICT system or service
Delegating technical authority for nominated design and acceptance activities to suitably qualified and competent representatives

Role requirements:

  • Essential
Ability to obtain CTO design acceptance authority level 3 delegation with a combination of the following
Engineering degree in an ICT discipline or closely related (e.g. electrical engineering)
Knowledge and experience of ITIL, systems engineering, risk management, V&V, configuration management, reliability, availability, maintainability
Demonstrated detail knowledge of networking and computer systems
Desirable
Prior experience as a DAAR
Understanding of the other engineering frameworks in use by Defence
Experience in CIOG, especially knowledge of the TAF
Experience in quality management
Experience of military ICT

Other relevant information or special requirements:

  • Must hold a minimum Negative Vetting Level 2 Clearance (NV2)
