The Department Summary


The Alfred Health Emergency, Virtual care and Outpatients (EVO) Program is responsible for the delivery of emergency and paediatric clinical services across Alfred Health, as well as several other clinical support services.

This program also plays an integral role in the access and flow demand as well as capacity management across both Alfred & Sandringham.


Alfred Health Emergency sees approximately 120,000 patients per annum across two Departments; the Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre (E&TC) manages approximately 75,000 patients, and the Sandringham Emergency Department manages approximately 45,000 patients each year.


Sandringham Emergency Department is community focused and has an integrated Urgent Care Centre in addition to the emergency services through the main Emergency Department.

The Alfred E&TC is one of the state's busiest emergency departments, providing timely quality care to acutely unwell and injured Victorians as well as a variety of state-wide services for critically unwell Victorians.

The EVO Program is responsible for several additional services that support the delivery of clinical care.

These include GP Liaison Service, Health Information Service, Virtual Services (such as Telehealth support team and the Timely Management of Chest Pain Pilot), Specialist Clinics Support Unit and the Operations Support Unit.


Position Summary


This position reports to the Operations Support Unit Manager of the Emergency Virtual Care & Outpatients program and has membership in the Patient Transport Reference Group.

The Transport Coordinator will support ongoing strategies implemented as part of the Patient Transport Reference Group work plan which has the following objective:

  • Reduce the overspend in patient transport across Alfred Health by implementing savings opportunities (substitution of transport types, offset spend to private hospitals) and improving systems, processes, monitoring and transparency of patient transport across Alfred Health._

Experience and Qualifications Required

_ Essential:
_Demonstrated computer proficiency including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel

Highly Desirable-

  • Experience working with nonemergency patient transport providers
  • Understanding of relevant DHHS and Alfred Health guidelines
  • Previous administration experience in a health setting

Desirable -

  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy legislation
  • Kowledge of Cerner programs
  • Understanding of terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to plan workflow,prioritise and delegate in order to meet deadlines
