The Role

Business Intelligence Officers work with teams across ASD to identify, analyse, and document business needs and develop strategies and solutions that help improve delivery of ASD's intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber missions.


Working in MD Division, they help ASD to make decisions about the technologies, data, tools and processes required to meet the expanding analysis needs of mission areas.


Within the Business Analysis function, an ASD4 Business Intelligence Officer is expected to work under limited direction on moderately complex projects, and support work of the team on more complex projects.

ASD5 Business Intelligence Officers will undertake complex business intelligence work, and will organise their work with autonomy.

At the ASD6 Level, Business Intelligence Officers may lead a team, and will be responsible for setting work priorities.

They will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or sensitive issues.


About our Team

Mission Data (MD) Division within the ASD is responsible for providing the foundational data capabilities to support all of ASD's functions.

We do this via the provision of data platforms and services, management of ASD's mission data and providing complex analytic development and support, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities.

Business Intelligence Officer positions are available in two branches of MD Division.

Data Management Branch is responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of ASD's mission data systems ensuring data is accurate, fit-for-purpose, and compliant with policy and legislation.

Data Analytics and Services Branch provides tools and analytics that help ASD analysts get the most from their data. The branch supports a suite of tools for various types of analysis, including visualisation services and graph analysis.

The analytics developed by the branch include tactical deployments through to highly engineered analytic pipelines that enrich the bulk of ASD's data holdings.
