Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Payroll this position is accountable for overseeing the strategic direction of the Payroll team, and ensure end-to-end payroll processing is completed on time and will report into the Head of Finance.


The role needs to ensure all legislative obligations are met, and any future changes are implemented in an accurate and timely manner.

The position will lead a team of 13 payroll/people services professionals to provide consistent and on time service delivery, as well as providing appropriate staff development and succession planning to support 5 direct reports.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Accountable for the accurate and timely delivery of the payment of salaries/wages, superannuation, allowances, expenses and all other payments associated with MTM's payroll
  • Actively monitor legislative changes, especially in relation to the NES, Superannuation and Tax and ensure any changes
- are implemented in a timely manner.

  • Ensure all relevant awards and Enterprise Agreements (EA's) are adhered to.
  • Lead the payroll team to ensure procedures and processes are followed to meet time constraints that occur within a
- payroll environment.

  • Develop and maintain mechanisms that permit grievances or disputes with staff to be quickly identified and resolved with minimum disruption to work.
  • Lead and develop that payroll team members to allow for internal career development and the reduction of single points of failure (Cross training).
Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10+ Years in payroll, with 5+ at Manager level or above.
  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate HR / Finance function are highly desirable
  • Proven Experience leading large and complex payroll teams
  • Experience working in large complex Manufacturing, Transportation and Heath organisations would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tight timelines and experience working in a fastpaced environment
  • Strongverbal communicationskillswith the ability tosuccessfullydeal with people at all levels of an organisation,including liaising with a wide range of diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with internetbased communications tools.
  • The ability to use initiative and be innovative with a complex integrated management system.
