Your Opportunity

As the Grounds/Stores Assistant, you will:

  • Undertake activities associated with grounds/stores functions to provide an environment conductive to the achievement of quality services in a highly presentable form.
  • Accountable for achieving the operational objectives of the position and ensuring your work complies with all TAFE Queensland policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
This position reports to the Site Services Operational Lead
This is a Permanent Full Time opportunity.

The position will be based primarily at Ashmore however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the purchasing and/or pickup of materials and equipment
  • Maintain, receipt, validate goods, stock and consumable inventory in the stores and substores under supervision.
  • Receive purchasing requests, perform requisitions, and receipting.
  • Perform regular stock inventory checks, restock where required, undertake annual stocktake, record/update inventory, liaise with assets team and asset tag goods.
  • Unload inventory from trucks and deliveries
  • Maintain in good order and condition plants, gardens and lawn areas associated with the grounds to ensure that the Institute grounds and the general areas surrounding the Region's buildings are in a highly presentable form.
  • Develop new areas and landscape gardens as required including the maintenance of an area for propagation, plant re growth and potting with a view to the re supply of Region's plants from that source.
  • Manage the campus waste bins including general recycling and container refund waste collection, contamination minimisation and disposal into main collection points.
  • Carry out general cleaning including drains and gutters, and sweeping of car parks, courtyards, amphitheatre, pathways and other common use areas
  • Safely store and maintain all garden tools and equipment in good order and condition.
  • Model and actively promote an ethical and safe work environment that supports a culture of zero harm and best practice regarding health, safety, wellness and sustainability.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in quality grounds maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform purchasing, stock movement control and auditing.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, organise and prioritise tasks within set timeframes to minimise interruptions to classroom activities.
  • Sound understanding of occupational health and safety, risk management, equal employment opportunity, antidiscrimination practices and behaviour as applied in a working environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of customer satisfaction.
Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Forklift Licence
  • 5 years' experience in grounds maintenance
  • Certificate III in Horticulture
