Situated just 6km from Melbourne's CBD, Maribyrnong City Council is a diverse and vibrant city undergoing significant change in population growth, redevelopment, gentrification, and a transitioning economy bringing an influx of new residents, businesses and opportunities. With a growing population approaching 100,000 residents, comes a need for increased infrastructure and services, greater connectivity and transport options, environmental sustainability, managed urban growth, liveability and improved community outcomes. Maribyrnong City Council is seeking a dynamic, contemporary people leader to help deliver on our vision for an inclusive, flourishing, progressive city that cares for both its residents and its environment.

Reporting to the CEO, you will bring a customer first focus in providing high quality planning, environmental, economic development and Smart City expertise. Demonstrated strategic achievements in planning, you will ensure that growth is sustainable and delivers social, environmental, economic benefits for the community. Using your strategic thinking ability and pragmatic approach, you are quickly able to build trust at all levels in the organisation and provide expert advice to executive team members. Leading diverse teams, your leadership capabilities will further build a high functioning, cohesive and productive team culture. The role is critical in supporting the CEO to provide the Council with the best quality advice to help it make optimal decisions regarding the prosperity and wellbeing of the community and delivering on an ambitious agenda for the City.

To be considered, you are well known as a values driven people leader who has demonstrated technical capabilities with the ability to lead in alignment with the Council's vision and plans. You will be innovative and future focused and seek out opportunities to continuously improve systems and processes. Being politically astute and demonstrating a strong commitment to local government with a sound understanding of the statutory and legislative requirements of Council, your strong interpersonal skills will build positive relationships and foster productive partnerships. Tertiary qualifications in planning are required and any other associated qualifications are encouraged.
