As a crucial part of our team, you will have a fundamental role in delivering AusNet's groundbreaking projects that necessitate an Environment Effects Statement (EES) and other vital statutory approvals. Your expertise will be key in shaping the future of sustainable energy infrastructure.

Your primary focus will be within the Western Renewables Link (WRL) project team. Here, you will lead a dynamic group, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including experts from various project streams. Your mission: to offer expert advice on statutory planning and EES, ensuring the successful approval and implementation of this innovative project.

With a 3/2 Hybrid split Office / WFH setup, this role is based in Melbourne CBD and is part of the Western Renewables Link project team, Development & Future Networks team.

This position will yield tangible outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Oversee the Land Planning & Approval team by embodying company values, to supervise team performance and achieve AusNet's strategic goals in securing complex statutory approvals in Victoria and other jurisdictions for the construction and management of electrical infrastructure.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for devising and executing complex planning, heritage, and environmental approval strategies, ensuring the success of the WRL project and other AusNet endeavors.
  • Lead the team's involvement in tender submissions and requests for tenders, encompassing scoping, cost estimation, evaluations, and reviews related to planning and environmental effects/requirements
  • Manage budgets and forecasts in line with delegated authority
  • Regularly brief the AusNet executive leadership team on progress and significant issues concerning project approvals and compliance during construction and operation within AusNet's project regulatory frameworks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, government bodies, and the community to bolster the development and delivery of projects.
  • Lead the team in working with various stakeholders to gather the necessary inputs to obtain planning permits, scheme amendments, heritage approvals, and complete the EES for WRL
  • Lead meetings and workshops with multidisciplinary teams and consultants to resolve project issues and expedite project approval processes
  • Participate in community information sessions and stakeholder meetings, including engagement with environmental interest groups.
  • Foster the growth and development of our workforce and cultivate high-performing teams
  • Take on a leadership role across the WRL Leadership team in achieving strategic objectives and consistently enhancing the team's culture and engagement
  • Effectively manage senior internal stakeholders, including DFN and Ausnet Executive leadership team

You don't have to meet every requirement, but we seek a solid combination of:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning, or other relevant field
  • Demonstrated comprehension of statutory planning and State and Federal environmental approval procedures, and utility legislation (ability to offer sound technical advice)
  • Show subject matter expertise and experience in participating in design reviews, identifying avenues for enhanced environmental outcomes; being a trusted advisor and source of expert guidance on project approvals and EES matters for project delivery
  • Proven success in leading project teams in delivering complex and high-profile land, planning, and environmental approvals for significant infrastructure projects
  • Experience in heading teams handling environmental assessments, preparing technical deliverables, reports, project monitoring, and resource allocation to meet deadlines and budgets for large-scale projects
  • Demonstrated track record of leading or significantly contributing to the completion of an EES and securing approval for projects on similar major infrastructure projects
  • Experience in overseeing the delivery of approvals and project construction through subcontractors
  • Experience managing large multidisciplinary teams of specialists with planning and environmental expertise
