The opportunity:

We currently have a full-time Senior Intake & Assessment Officer position available for our Indooroopilly centre. This is a 12 month contract within an established centre and welcoming multidisciplinary team.

As one of the first contact points for young people accessing the headspace centre, our Intake and Assessment Officers build a positive rapport with a wide range of young people, as well as their family and friends.

Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will work with a group of committed clinical and operational staff to develop and promote the reputation of headspace Indooroopilly within the local and wider community.

On a day to day basis you will:

  • Effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions, and coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years that contact, or are referred to, the headspace centre.
  • Work closely with local community and partner youth and health services to provide holistic and integrated care.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision and will be required to present and discuss cases with the clinical care team.
  • Work as part of a high performing, multidisciplinary team, including general practitioners, allied health clinicians, community engagement workers, and support staff.
  • Conduct risk assessments, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.
  • Deliver brief therapeutic interventions and engage in care planning with clients

About you:

You will be skilled in assessing a young person's needs, including complex risk assessments and you'll have the ability to action a plan to mitigate any identified risk. You will be welcoming, professional, and committed, with the following attributes:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with young people at risk.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector and a broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people in Australia,
  • Hold or be able to attain a Blue Card and Yellow Card
  • Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or suitable prior work experience and working towards full registration/membership
