Austroads is the association of Australian and New Zealand transport agencies.

members to deliver safe, efficient and reliable mobility to their customers.

Austroads comprises several business activities, including the core Austroads work program, the National
Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS), and Transport Certification Australia
(TCA).

The Role
Position Purpose

The AusRAP program will lead and assist jurisdictions and local government to maximise the road
safety trauma reduction in their management of, and investment in, Australian roads.

AusRAP is the Australian version of the international Road Assessment Program (iRAP). The
responsibility for management of AusRAP was transferred from Australian Automobile Association to
Austroads in 2021.

The AusRAP program is intended to lead and assist jurisdictions and local government to maximise the
road safety trauma reduction in their management of, and investment in, Australian roads. The AusRAP
vision is for an Australia free of high-risk roads for all road users.

The Program Lead - AusRAP has overall responsibility for the implementation of the AusRAP Strategy
and Business Plan, which includes providing leadership and governance for the AusRAP program,
supporting AusRAP partners and stakeholders, promoting the vision of iRAP for a world free of high-risk
roads and ensuring AusRAP activity is undertaken to iRAP standard. They will establish sound program
governance to ensure all key policy, funding, technical, implementation and communication activities are
well coordinated nationally and benefit from the experience or other countries around the world.

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities

The role is responsible for:

  • Leadership, coordination and governance of the AusRAP program.
  • Development and maintenance of the national partnerships to support the vision for an Australia free
- of high-risk roads for all road users.
  • Providing leadership and coordination activity that supports the implementation of the national
  • AusRAP strategy and business plan.
  • Operating AusRAP in accordance with the global iRAP licence schemes, guidelines and specifications.
  • Collecting and reporting national metrics.
  • Connecting with the global iRAP partners to ensure experience, innovation and success is shared for
- the mutual benefit of all.
  • Ensuring AusRAP resources and the global resources of the iRAP programme are efficiently deployed
- in support of local needs.
  • Leadership of a small expert team and consultants to deliver the AusRAP Business Plan.
  • Work with other teams across Austroads to support the needs of Austroads member agencies.
