HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage.

About the role:


The Day Program Mentor works collaboratively with the Bail Coordinator to develop a personalised, strengths-based daily activity plan for each young person residing in the service.

They are responsible for providing support to the individual needs and goals as identified by the young person and to assist them to take responsibility and make healthy life choices until their court date.


In the role, you will be a role model and mentor to young people in working towards their goals while on bail.

You will be required to collaborate with and submit regular reports to other stakeholders.

You are also responsible for house management alongside other staff members to ensure that the properties are maintained to a high standard.


Requirements of the role:


Due to the expectations of the role, you must have demonstrated a high level of expertise and experience in working with at-risk young people or young people with challenging behaviours.

Demonstrated skills in behavioural management, de-escalation, and effective communication are also required. Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Youth Work, Mental Health, Community Services, or AOD will be highly regarded.


It would be helpful for you to have knowledge and an understanding of the Youth Justice System and of Trauma Informed Practices and Care.

An interest in a range of hobbies such as woodwork, craft, gardening, food, and cooking would be beneficial as well.

It is essential that you have or will be able to obtain the below:

  • Current C or A class driver's licence
  • Working with Children Card
  • Police Certificate (within 3 months)
  • First Aid
  • Department of Justice clearance
