Senior Technical Data Centre Specialist

The Department of Customer service manages the NSW governments data centres through a shared commercial partnership. We provide support and expertise to new clients as well as servicing established government agencies and commercial customers.

The Senior Technical Data Centre Specialist is responsible for managing the availability, layout and environment of our data centres as well as liaising with the data centre provider to ensure compliance to contractual commitments.

About The Role

Key accountabilities

  • Support the service delivery management function including, but not limited to, onboarding, representing customer, and providing technical and strategic advice to customers throughout their lifecycle, ensuring service delivery outcomes are met.
  • Perform operational equipment monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting and escalating issues, including proactive problem resolution and complex problem analysis as necessary, to maintain performance to meet user demand.
  • Reduce operational risk and improve availability of services by ensuring connectivity access, monitoring, control, evaluation and documentation practices are maintained and adhered to agreed standards
  • Develop, maintain and perform operational procedures and ensure operational tasks are performed reliably and consistently to reduce the risk of unplanned outages
  • Manage incidents to assist with service restoration activities and the review of infrastructure change requests
  • Report and manage operational risks and identify emerging issues and opportunities to continuously evolve and improve service delivery.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in data centre and infrastructure management in a complex IT environment, including knowledge on Data centre design and power redundancies.
  • Demonstrated experience in guiding stakeholders through the processes and practices in utilising services within large scale data centres
  • Demonstrated experience with Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) solutions, in particular cable management and asset management solutions.
  • Detailed understanding of data centre cabling technologies and solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to engage with, influence, build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability and willingness to understand new technologies, systems and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft suite of productivity tools (eg. Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
  • Willing to travel to the Data Centres as and when required (Parramatta and Wollongong areas). Current Drivers license and own transport to attend sites is a requirement of the position.
  • Occasional requirement to perform activities onsite on a weekend is a requirement of the role and should be considered by the applicant in their response.

Salary DCS Grade 0910, with the base salary for this role starting at 120,859 base plus superannuation
