The primary purpose of this role is to support Director Satellite - Governance & Industry Engagement to strategically and proactively respond to State and National Level policy imperatives concerning Australian Industry Capability (AIC) and embed AIC (defined as sovereign industry capability and workforce skills development) into the business of Optus core business.

Of Dual importance is a focus on Industry Engagement which will include Federal and State Governments to influence Satellite and Space policy and key industry Bodies such as the Australian Space Agency, SIAA and SWGG.

This position would be expected or required to participate or be part of such industry bodies as the Optus Satellite representative to ensure Optus positions and influences our overall strategy and commercial objectives.


About the role

  • Support the business development team incorperating Optus Satellite AIC strategy and plans by increasing Defence business across WOLSS, Task Directives, and Bid response.
  • Support development of the overall AIC Strategy with Federal and State Governments by proactively identifying and engaging with key Government stakeholders (in collaboration with the Optus Corporate Affairs and Government Relations Team/s).
  • Actively advocate Government and Industry awareness of Optus Satellite capability and lobby for addition/ inclusion of Optus Satellite in key stakeholder groups/ representative bodies, such as the Australian Space Agency (ASA) Statement of Strategic Intent and SmartSat CRC.
  • Research, write and publish papers in areas of Space policy and regulation, as well as represent Optus Satellite at conferences and industry events to advance Optus Satellite position as an Industry thought leader.


 Support Director Satellite
  • Governance & Industry Engagement to identify and pursue strategic opportunities.
  • Develop Optus Satellite University & TAFE Engagement Plan.
  • Representation and key note speaker at Satellite conferences and seminars.

About You

  • Commercial experience, with Legal background, of Australian industry and the commercial elements to conducting AIC business including start up Experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Space industry, people and processes to support development of an AIC strategy, and set up of successful and beneficial partnerships across all facets of industry and academia.
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Background in Space Policy and GR
  • Understand financial principles with the ability to produce costing models
  • Proactive in the establishment of professional relationships at appropriate levels of the customer structure and within Optus
