About the Role

This is a Permanent Full-Time position at 1 FTE / 80 hours per fortnight within the Butterfly, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nursing ward.

You will work in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and provide management of and clinical leadership to staff within the Butterfly ward. This role will be responsible for the clinical operational requirements of the ward, and partner with the NUM to foster a positive, supportive, and reflective culture to drive nursing performance, opportunity, and career progression.

What you'll achieve:

Manage the day-to-day clinical operations of the ward to achieve key performance measures within a framework of continuous improvement, quality, and risk management. Ensure effective, management of staff rosters and allocation of resources including both planned and unplanned leave. Provide regular performance evaluations and constructive feedback to identify opportunities for professional growth and development of nurses within the team. Lead and support clinical inquiry by the nursing team in the ward and the translation of evidence into practice. Promote and develop a dynamic, flexible, resilient, and skilled workforce through effective staff management and professional development opportunities/ career progression opportunities.

Classification for this position will be Nurse Unit Manager Level 2, NM11 (FTE base salary $126,074 per annum, plus superannuation).

Your skills and experience:

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA). Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP). Post Graduate qualifications in Critical Care Nursing or working towards gaining. Previous management experience and commitment to undertaking further management studies.

About Butterfly, Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

As part of Neonatal Medicine at The Royal Children's Hospital, Butterfly - Newborn Intensive Care Ward provides the best neonatal care for the sickest babies and infants from Victoria, interstate and overseas.

Babies admitted to Butterfly - Newborn Intensive Care Ward have a wide range of complex medical and surgical problems. Some require the support of a ventilator for their breathing, and many require specialised surgical procedures. The management of our babies is overseen by a team of Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurses, and Allied Health specialists. Particularly complex or long-term patients are appointed a Nurse Coordinator to co-ordinate their care.
