If so, Kilcoy State High School has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and passionate educator to join their team as a0.2 FTE Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) on a temporary basis until 13 December 2024 unless otherwise determined.

The rostered days for the position are Friday of each week. Within this role, you will work with a dedicated administration team to meet theneeds of a range of diverse learners.

This position will be based at Kilcoy State High School, but will from time to time, work collaboratively with our two feeder primary schools to provide expertise and leadership. If you would like to make a positive influence on ourschool community, please apply below.

About the Role

The role of the HOSES is tasked with embracing 'Equity and Excellence' for every student, focusing on educational achievement, wellbeing and engagement, culture and inclusion.

The successful applicant will lead the case management of students across Years 7-12 that are identified through NCCD as having complex issues. Your expertise will also be integral in developing the capacity of staff to meet the educational needs of students with disability. As Head of Department Special Education Services, you will directly lead a small team of dedicated SWD teachers and teacher aides. You will provide leadership, coaching and management across the school to ensure legislation and policies are upheld, including the human rights and disability discrimination acts.

Responsibilities within this role include, but are not limited to;

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and Diverse Learning Team.
  • Lead and manage the Special Education Program and Diverse Learning Team to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.
  • Provide high quality advice and capability building to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
  • Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.
  • Provide, support and coordinate case management for students who require supplementary, substantial and extensive adjustments.
  • Support classroom teachers and other school staff to access departmental or other external specialist services, professional development, and supports as needed.
