The Research Outputs Librarian assists in the effective delivery of the University's publication collections process and contributes to the Library's component of this process to ensure that publications are processed efficiently and accurately, in line with the requirements of the university's internal and external reporting requirements and to enhance the discoverability of Deakin's research through the university's research repository - Deakin Research Online (DRO).


The role collaborates closely with the Senior Officer, Research Outputs Collection to liaise with faculty to coordinate these processes and provides expert advice to faculties and researchers regarding permissions and licences for repository content.


The position is also responsible for ensuring that quality standards are met in relation to the creation of mandatory metadata, through the proactive creation and analysis of reports in Symplectic Elements.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Progress the flow of publications in line with the publications procedures to ensure all publications are processed in line with internal and external deadlines
  • Contribute to the publications process by assisting with training and supporting casual staff in the creation and processing of publication metadata
  • Efficiently review and, when required, upgrade metadata content to the required standard using reliable sources of copy, meeting acceptable standards
  • Provide a high standard of customer service and responds to routine enquiries from research administrators and researchers as required
  • Create practical, simple and accessible solutions to problems after considering multiple perspectives
  • Coach, guide and support team members as needed to deliver against individual, team and University goals
  • Clarify expectations and respond promptly to client requests, queries, or complaints to ensure client needs are met to agreed standards and timelines
  • Build productive relationships with a diverse range of existing stakeholders and actively seek to maintain positive relationships
  • Present information in a clear, structured, concise and tailored way by focusing on key messages and check that messages are understood and meet audience needs

To be successful, you'll have:

  • Degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in library and information science conferring eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.
  • Understanding of the services offered in an academic library
  • Experience in developing operational procedures within a client focussed team environment
