As a leader within the engineering team, you are responsible for uplifting the standards of the engineering team by directly contributing to setting the technical vision for the company.

As the technical leader for a squad of up to 9 engineers, you will actively impact change by looking forward into the future to make decisions today, with actions you believe will benefit not just your own team but to the overall benefit of the company.

You will continuously challenge yourself and those around you by expanding your world of knowledge so that more creative and effective solutions can be delivered.

This role reports to the Engineering Manager of your squad.

Together you will make decisions which will be beneficial to both the team members of your squad as well as the overall technical direction of ubank.


How you will spend your time

  • Working in partnership with the Engineering Manager of your squad.
  • Promoting a culture of collaboration, effective communication, ownership and fun.
  • Setting a technical vision that will be beneficial for your squad, engineering team and ubank.
  • Working closely with technical leaders and other stakeholders to set the technology roadmap and overall technical direction of ubank.
  • Delving into the details and being "handson" with the technology.
  • Taking responsibility for the technical standards and outcomes that your squad delivers.
  • Advocating for change through steering and influencing others.
  • Providing technical coaching and mentoring to the immediate members in your team.
  • Ensuring that solutions delivered by your squad are reliable, performant, secure and costeffective.
  • Making balanced decisions that take into consideration time to implement, cost, and resourcing with the business' overall priorities and objectives in mind.

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer working across the stack.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering reliable, performant, secure and costeffective projects in an agile environment.
  • Deep understanding of the technology stack and the benefits of adopting continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator.
  • Experience mentoring other team members.
  • Technical excellence that helps improve the organisation.
