About the role:


This is an exciting opportunity to join Victoria Police in a business HR establishment and support advisory (VPSG-3) capacity to support the Legal Business Operations Division (LBOD) of the Legal Services Department (LSD).

The Legal Services Department provides legal services and advice to support policing, courts, and the Victorian Community.

The LSD is led by an Executive Director (who is also the organisation's General Counsel) and employs over 800 staff spread across four divisions - the Office of the Executive Director; the Legal Practice Division (incorporating the Civil Law Division); the Courts and Specialist Prosecutions Division; and the Legal Business Operations Division.

We employee police prosecutors, police lawyers (including specialised advocates and lawyers), project and program support staff, and administration and business support staff - all from a diverse mix of sworn, operational, VPS and specialist technical areas.

Reporting to the Legal Business Services (LBS) Business Support Coordinator, the Business Support Officer is responsible for providing a broad range of business support assistance with a large emphasis on HR and personnel matters within the Legal Services HR Establishment team.

A team that deals with a high volume of queries and establishment processes, the Business Support Officer will assist in driving the development of HR processes and systems and support the provision of HR Establishment advice and direction across LSD.

The LBOD is looking for an individual who is self‐confident and can build strong relationships with a range of different client groups.

You will be a good listener who is understanding and considerate of the needs of your clients.

You will have experience influencing outcomes for several different clients and maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity in the work you do.

Your duties will include:

  • Liaising with various stakeholders within Legal Services Department and across the organisation
  • Assist with management of the Department's HR support functions including:
  • drafting vacancy and establishment requests
- facilitating Sworn and VPS transfers
- preparing documentation in support of internal and external secondments / assignments / Expressions of Interest

  • Various leave and End of Service administration including, but not limited to, Long Service Leave, Leave Without Pay and Resignations
- organisational structure administration
- maintenance of HR Establishment records
- general HR business support

  • Coordinate research and analysis on the effectiveness and efficiency of specific business issues, initiatives, and practices and assist with preparing relevant reports and briefing papers, recommendations and implement strategies as required as required.

  • Proven ability to accurately process a high volume of work within strict timeframes
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including modelling resilience, professionalism, and positive communication
  • Welldeveloped customer service and stakeholder engagement skills

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One x part time 0.8FTE, ongoing position available.
  • The salary plus superannuation will be pro rata.
  • This position is located at the Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • As a member of the Legal Services Department, you will be located on selection, at a specific office within a division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department. This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.
