About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (the department) supports people to have safe, secure and well-paid work with the skills for a sustainable future.
We contribute to efforts across government to foster a resilient, innovative, and inclusive labour market, and work to support people into safe, secure, and well-paid jobs that meet the needs of employees, employers, and industry.
The Role
We have an exceptional opportunity for a talented individual to lead an exciting reform agenda in the employment and workforce system, including employment services.
You will work closely with government, industry and communities to understand labour market and workforce challenges and collaborate on interventions.
You will also contribute towards whole-of-government outcomes (such as Closing the Gap, the Employment White Paper, and the net zero transformation)in the context of workforce issues.
You will lead the design and delivery of national policies and programs that help Australians to access secure work and build sustainable careers.
Your outcomes will include ensuring our settings support and maintain strong employment levels as an ongoing feature of our labour market and fostering a productive and competitive labour market by helping people into secure work and increasing workforce participation.
You will engage with the House of Representatives Inquiry into Workforce Australia Employment Services (reporting in late 2023) which may consider reforms to the employment and workforce system, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders (including across government, industry and communities) about the redesign of key programs which support parents to engage in the labour market to their full potential.
You will work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a sound understanding of the issues being faced and design and deliver innovative solutions that will enhance, promote and contribute to the government's labour market agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking an established and inspiring senior leader from the public, private and/or community sectors.
You will be a creative policy thinker with a record of achievement and a highly motivated leader with exceptional management and leadership skills.
You will have the ability to:
- demonstrate strategic thinking, highly developed conceptual and analytical skills and a good understanding of the department's role within society
- engage, partner and co-design with stakeholders
- lead and drive organisation and culture change
- establish effective working relationships with Ministers and key stakeholders
- innovate and change, and lead the creation of solutions
- anticipate and identify strategic risks, actively manage them and help others to do this
- secure stakeholder commitment to change and maintain open communication channels during the change
- be open, honest and accountable
- manage and lead successful, diverse teams, particularly in respect to a flexible and multi-skilled workforce.
Qualifications and Education
The position requires an academic and/or skill level that is consistent with the key deliverables and responsibilities set out above and aligned with the SES Band 3 Work Level Standards
