The Treasury is seeking a dynamic senior executive at the SES Band 1 level with the demonstrated aptitude, leadership and collaboration skills to establish and lead the new Australian Centre for Evaluation.

In this role, you will engage regularly with Assistant Minister Leigh and his office.

Assistant Secretaries (SES Band 1) at Treasury play a vital role in the delivery of our purpose.

You will leverage your strong leadership and collaboration skills to provide trusted and influential policy advice and analysis, engage with our stakeholders and partners, build capability, and ensure effective and efficient delivery of our priorities.


You will lead a branch with people, financial, risk management and governance responsibilities, and will actively contribute to the overall culture and purpose of the Treasury as a member of the leadership team along with First Assistant Secretaries and the Deputy Secretaries.

As Assistant Secretary, Australian Centre for Evaluation, you must be able to demonstrate that you have:

  • experience in driving cultural and organisational change relevant to the challenge of embedding a culture of evaluation in the Australian Public Service
- strong leadership skills developed through building and developing high performing and diverse teams
- well-developed judgement and strategic-thinking skills that enable you to effectively manage high-priority projects simultaneously
- an ability to develop productive and collaborative relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders, and can represent the Treasury and the Australian Government at a range of forums
- strong communication skills.


Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field of study, such as Evaluation, Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Social Research Methods, Public Policy, Business or Commerce are highly desirable.


Experience in the field of evaluation, including a sound understanding of methods of causal inference, such as randomised control trials, is highly desirable.
