About the role

The Clinical Facilitator (CF) plans, implements and evaluates clinical learning opportunities within the Surgical Ward at Ipswich Hospital to support clinicians to provide evidence-based and contemporary patient-focused care.

The CF develops and maintains collaborative relationships with the Surgical multidisciplinary team and the Surgical Nurse Educator to enable education services to be available and accessible within the clinical setting.

This position has a work allocation within the Nursing and Midwifery Education Research Service (NMERS) and is aligned to the Surgical Ward, Division of Critical Care and Surgery.


Major responsibilities for this position include:

induction and support of novice nursing staff to Surgical nursing, induction and support for undergraduate students, support all nursing staff to function at top of scope within the surgical setting, support staff undertaking the Acute Care Transition to Practice Support program and development of resources used to support evidenced-based practice within the surgical speciality.

This position has Trainer responsibilities for manual handling, basic and advanced life support, as well management and support for mandatory training requirements.

About you

  • Demonstrate clinical experience and contemporary knowledge relevant to this role.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in developing, implementing and evaluating clinical education activities which support clinicians to deliver contemporary, and evidencebased care and to support clinician to share these skills and knowledge with others.
  • Demonstrate advanced level of interpersonal and written communication skills to enable accurate, complete, and timely information transfer.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively within both clinical and education teams to meet service imperatives within designated timeframes and resource allocations

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
