Position Information:


Largs Public School, located in a rural area on the northern river flats of Maitland on Wonnarua Land, is the oldest public school in Australia still in operation on the original site and will have been in operation for 175 years in 2024.

The school has a proud history of providing a caring family environment with strong parent involvement.

It is a dynamic school with a current enrolment of 156 students, including 10% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, with a current FOEI of 88.


The school community of Largs Public School believe that every student has a right to learn and that a cooperative partnership between home, school and the broader community enhances student learning.

The school aims to build resilient learners who are successful in all aspects of their education through strong positive behaviour for learning programs and student wellbeing initiatives that are focused on all students receiving the support they need to achieve their potential.

Selection Criteria:

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Capacity to lead the development of schoolwide systems to support the psychosocial safety of staff, students and all community members who support the school community.
  • Demonstrated highly visible effective educational leadership to enhance community engagement, including partnerships with the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, guiding the use of all school resources to empower all students to be successful socially, emotionally and academically.
  • Successful school leadership experience implementing schoolwide initiatives to improve teacher practice in literacy and numeracy underpinned by evidenced based practice.

General Selection Criteria:

  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
