Climate change is one of society's most pressing challenges with significant regulatory, risk, reputation, and customer implications.

NAB's ambition is to be a catalyst in Australia's climate transition, and the Enterprise Climate Team is mobilised to deliver this ambition. The Chief Climate Officer leads the Enterprise Climate Team, shapes NAB's climate agenda and drives our collective efforts to support our customers and colleagues as they face into the opportunities and challenges that climate change presents.

We currently have an opportunity for a director to join the Enterprise Climate Team to provide direct support to the Chief Climate Officer and Climate Office across Climate Team responsibilities.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Helping to deliver enterprise climate deliverables including assisting the Chief Climate Officer in Key Interfaces.
  • Supporting the Chief Climate Officer in executing against their key priorities.
  • Drive the effectiveness of the Climate Office, including being part of a high-performing Leadership Team.
  • Taking ownership of agreed key initiatives on behalf of the Climate Office.
  • Maintain positive risk awareness, escalating to the Chief Climate Officer any identified or perceived climate-related risks.
  • Coaching and mentoring of Climate Office colleagues in conjunction with Climate Leadership Team, driving a positive team culture and engagement outcomes.
To be successful in the role you will have:
  • Experience in developing/co-developing strategy, planning and execution management, and/or working on large complex projects in a large organisation.
  • Experience in engaging with senior stakeholders (including Executive level) on climate related matters.
  • Strong commercial acumen - the ability to understand climate change and how it affects our customers.
  • Experience in engaging with external stakeholders on climate related matters.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in both Business, Risk & Governance and/or Climate Change/Sustainability.
  • Understanding of banking and strategic risk and opportunity implications of the climate transition in financial services - strategic and agile mindset and demonstrated business acumen.
  • Strong organisational, time management and communication (written and oral) skills - ability to plan and prioritise resources.
  • Excellent decision quality - ability to synthesise and make clear recommendations.
  • Strong engagement, influencing and advocacy skills - ability to engage both internal and external stakeholders, building trusted relationships across the Group (including with senior stakeholders) and, as required, external interfaces.
  • Understanding of climate science and risk, associated regulation and technology, and ability to synthesise and communicate to non-technical stakeholders.
