Main purpose of job:


This position works closely with the Head of Australia and Oceania Communications and Senior Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand.


The purpose of the job is to plan and execute strategic, high quality marketing activity - on and offline - supporting business / sector teams to key audiences.

There is a particular focus on digital marketing and promoting the GREAT brand.

You will be the brand lead for GREAT across Australia, encouraging people to "See things differently".

This is particularly relevant to our work promoting the UK as a Science Superpower and a technology and innovation hub.

You will have particular responsibility for leading and measuring campaigns focused on delivering benefit from the Free Trade Agreements, promoting the trade and investment opportunities between the UK and Australia and New Zealand and the ease of doing business.

You will support the wider communications team on crisis and Ministerial visits as needed.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Manager Marketing and Social Media to develop and deliver strategic marketing communications plans for key industry sectors. You will set stretching targets and work to achieve them through on and offline channels.
  • Project manage the delivery of marcomms activity in Australia and NZ for sector campaigns and crossgovernment GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland campaign activity including (but not limited to): events, exhibitions, sponsorship, collateral materials, audiovisual content.
  • Be the Brand Ambassador for GREAT, ensuring consistent and impactful use of the brand across the UK in Australia network is in line with guidelines. Report on GREAT campaign highlights and sector campaigns to HQ and across the mission.
  • Plan, execute and evaluate digital marketing campaigns using digital marketing software and templates, continually improving activity and measuring against lead gen and conversion targets.
  • Use and develop audience and business insights to inform planning and communication recommendations.
  • Maintain marketing database and provide eDM recommendations based on insight and evaluation.
  • Maintain internal events calendars and distribute to the teams
  • Evaluate and report on all marketing communication and event activity using best practice approaches as set out in the UK Government Communications evaluation framework.
  • Develop strong working relationships with teams across Australia and New Zealand; the APAC Regional Marketing & Communications Office in Singapore, the Global MarComms Hub in Hong Kong and London and colleagues across other British government departments.
  • Prepare and present marketing recommendations to team, sharing reports on effective tactics and demonstrating the value and importance of marketing activity in meeting business objectives.
  • Stay up to date with latest digital marketing thinking, tools and capabilities and incorporate into daytoday work.
  • Support and train marketing and communications champions across the sector teams to selfservice on common business needs, develop objectives, understand their audience and evaluate their activity.
  • Manage individual project budgets and comply with budget processes and reporting requirements. Ensure activity presents VfM, but be prepared to try new tactics and approaches.
  • Commission, manage and negotiate with third party suppliers in line with procurement guidelines.
  • Provide marketing and brand support for significant visits, developing high impact and creative plans which support business objectives
  • Provide support to the Australia network, Consul Generals, High Commissioner to promote UK in Australia objectives.
  • Be able to provide support on social media, web and communications as required including creating/drafting content/ social media content and posting; taking pictures/video and livetweeting at events.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

  • Manage own budget including low cost campaigns.
  • No direct line management, but opportunities to support and train sector leads across the network in communications best practice and ways of working.
  • Opportunity to manage work placement students.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • High level of written (native) and spoken English language proficiency required
  • Experience in strategic marketing (including business to business), planning, delivering and evaluating emarketing/digital marketing campaigns and database management.
  • Demonstrated experience in event marketing, digital marketing and branding
  • Ability to evaluate events and campaigns using a range of metrics
  • Strong budget management and project management skills
  • Awareness of range of paid, earned, owned channels and how to utilise to best effect
