SC1 Highly developed counselling skills and experience in counselling adolescents presenting with a range of issues who may be self-referred, teacher or parent referred.

SC2 Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of programs that foster resilience in young people and address their social, emotional and educational needs.

SC3 Knowledge of case management and student support strategies, with a demonstrated capacity to deliver a comprehensive wellbeing service to students and families in an educational setting.

SC4 Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and network with the wide range of people within the education and wider community

SC5 Demonstrate a commitment to professional learning and growth and have appropriate qualifications and capacity to perform the roles and duties as described in the 'schools specific roles section'

SC6 Demonstrated ability to actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all students in line with the Child Safe Standards

Role:

The Student Counsellor supports students with specific social and emotional needs to engage with school.

An integral component of this role is to facilitate support for teachers when working with students at risk of disengaging from school.

The Social Worker/Psychologist/Counsellor also contributes to the development of high-quality programs that promote wellbeing and engagement throughout the College.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive and transparent case management to allocated students.
  • Facilitate intensive support for students with specific social, emotional and educational needs through schoolbased interventions and case management
  • Assess plan and intervene in wellbeing programs for students with specific social, emotional, and educational needs who are at risk of disengaging from school.
  • Provide appropriate advice to teachers regarding the impact that a student's situation may have upon their learning and suggest strategies to promote the student's wellbeing and prevent disengagement, particularly primary prevention and early intervention
  • Provide high quality advice and support to the school community.
  • Advise the Wellbeing Leader and Principal Class of any critical incidents impacting upon a student's wellbeing in a timely manner.
  • Record and complete accurate case notes within a timely manner.
  • Undertake regular Supervision
  • Attend relevant student support group meetings.
  • Report any concerns to relevant external services such as Child First or Child Protection within a timely manner.
  • Work as a member of the Wellbeing Team, adhering to the agreed protocols.
  • Attend Wellbeing, Case Conference and required Staff meetings.
  • Regularly communicate with teachers regarding students engaging in external services.
  • Promote student rights and wellbeing

Qualifications

  • Qualified Counsellor or Social Worker (new graduates will be considered)
