St Vincent's has been delivering healthcare in Australia for over 155 years since the initial hospital was established in Sydney in 1857 by the Sisters of Charity.

When the first five Sisters landed in Australia in 1838, they carried with them the mission of their Founder, Mary Aikenhead, to extend assistance to all requiring care, particularly in the service of the underprivileged.

In a freshly formed colony, there were myriad challenges.
The demand for the distinct talents of Mary Aikenhead's Sisters – education, outreach, and healthcare – was substantial among the local populace.
This necessity was most crucial for those on the fringes of the emerging settlement.
It is the legacy entrusted to us by the Sisters of Charity that drives St Vincent's Health Australia to reinforce and expand our mission.

Currently, we offer services in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria through public hospitals, private hospitals, and aged care establishments.

We collaborate with numerous premier research organizations and universities in Australia and team up with other Orders and healthcare providers.

Our team of 17,000 members care for over 1 million patients and residents annually.
We stand by and serve those residing at the fringes of our society.
