The Team


The Office of the Deputy Electoral Commissioner is a highly committed, collaborative and professional team, consisting of the Deputy Electoral Commissioner (DEC) and the Deputy's Executive Officer.

The Deputy's office works closely with the Office of the Commissioner, the Executive Leadership Team and the broader agency.


In our organisational structure, the DEC has direct line responsibility for the Finance and Corporate Performance Branch, Community and International Engagement, and Parliamentary, Governance and Assurance Sections.

The Deputy is also the AEC champion for a range of priority areas of focus.

The Opportunity


We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Executive Assistant to provide high-level administrative support to the Office of the Deputy Electoral Commissioner.


You will be responsible for managing the office of, and provide high-level executive support to, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in a professional, accurate and timely manner.

You will undertake work that is complex and sensitive in nature, under very limited direction, utilising expertise and knowledge within the area of liaison, coordination and organisational tasks.


You will coordinate material for the Deputy Electoral Commissioner, utilising your critical thinking, the ability to deal with sensitive information and your expertise and motivation to undertake research in the preparation of background information on matters for the Office of the Deputy Commissioner.


To excel you will have:

  • Ability to independently and professionally respond to a range of routine, sensitive or urgent agency matters as the primary point of contact for the Office of the Deputy Commissioner.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills to proactively manage daily workflow and competing requests through the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, ensuring clear, timely and effective coordination.
  • The ability to develop and support key internal and external relationships, including managing stakeholders to achieve agency goals. In addition, represent the agency by promoting its interests in various forums.
  • Sound judgement and show a high degree of initiative, integrity and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive business matters.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate with team members, business areas and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • The ability to guide and mentor administrative staff within the Executive Support team and other AEC business areas, providing on the job training, setting priorities, and contributing to improvements to work practices.
