About the role


This role has a strong focus on delivery of the department's mandatory early close procedures and statutory annual financial statements, regular liaison with Audit Office of NSW, internal and external stakeholders management, collation of financial and non-financial data for publication of Auditor-General's reports and other related activities.


About you

  • Experience with financial statements and accounting standards.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent team management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Attention to detail, high level of commitment and cando attitude.
  • An understanding of NSW Treasury mandates and guidelines knowledge (advantageous).

Essential requirements of the role

  • Recent tertiary qualifications (bachelor's degree) within the last 5 years in one or more of the following fields: Accounting, Finance, Commerce or other discipline relevant to this role.
  • Eligibility or progress towards eligibility for membership to a recognised professional accounting body (CA ANZ, CPA, IPA or ACCA)
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Sound understanding of AASB and NSW Treasury pronouncements that are applicable to the preparation of statutory annual financial statements.
  • Experience working with advanced enterprise finance systems (SAP preferable).
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
