Appointments can be made from this pool at any time for starting dates within 2024 and up to the end of Term 2, 2025.The Education Assistant – Special Needs role primarily focuses on supporting student learning by assisting teachers in implementing planned education programs and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities include aiding in specialized education programs, such as personal care, social skills, and emotional regulation programs.Prior experience in managing emotional regulation and behavior data recording is advantageous. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills will be key in collaborating with teachers and colleagues to establish an inclusive education program tailored to students' needs.Applicants should demonstrate a dedication to fostering positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. A willingness to support teachers working with students with various disabilities and learning requirements is essential. Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Trauma is beneficial.Since over 35 years, East Kenwick PS has been an integral part of the Kenwick community. With approximately 400 students from diverse cultural backgrounds, including 15% Indigenous and 48% English as a Second Language, the school values cultural diversity and the unique contributions of each family.Our staff are well-prepared to assist students with additional behavioral needs. Experience with high support needs students is highly valued, and training in Team Teach is advantageous.To qualify for this position, you should demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with students with special needs, parents, and educators to support educational programs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate in program evaluation and implementation, including special education and therapy programs.
  • Organizational abilities to facilitate the delivery of education programs and provide feedback to educators or psychologists.
  • Capability to aid in implementing educational programs and knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students.
  • Ability to contribute to students' general health and well-being.
