Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • reviewing compliance by legal teams with the firm's legal excellence and risk management policies and procedures, including by conducting regular file audits and reporting back to firm management and the Risk Committee on the key results and themes;
  • working with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) (and others in the LER Team as required) to manage the firm's general (non-PI) insurance policies and ensuring each policy is reviewed (to consider the terms of the various policies and the extent of coverage) and renewed annually;
  • assisting the General Counsel (GC) when required with the management, review and renewal of the firm's PI insurance policies and broker arrangements;
  • implementing and maintaining an appropriate system to capture the firm's insurance renewals, policy information and nuances;
  • reviewing directorship applications and documents, including advising the GC, liaising with the relevant applicant and managing issues that may arise;
  • reviewing clients' terms of engagement for external legal suppliers and other third party contracts. In particular, assessing the firm's compliance requirements and coordinating these requirements with partners and firm management;
  • managing legal and operation issues relating to tenders including insurance related queries;
  • assisting other members of the LER Team to manage the firm's engagement agreements (including master engagement agreements), including updating the appointment terms to ensure compliance with the disclosure obligations of the relevant legal profession legislation and providing or assisting with training as required;
  • assisting the Risk Manager and the GC with general day to day risk management activities, such as conflict assessment and management, data breach assessments and management of the firm's privacy obligations, the preparation and presentation of risk management and compliance training, policy creation, and the creation and maintenance of risk management registers;
  • assisting the Risk Manager with the conduct of privacy impact assessments (PIAs), including the preparation of templates and the conduct of any research required to assist with the conduct of PIAs, and the preparation and presentation of any associated risk management training;
  • working with the Information Security Manager (and other members of the LER Team) to develop and maintain the firm's cyber security risk management framework and taking a lead role (along with the Information Security Manager, Risk Manager, GC, COO and others as required) in managing the firm's response to any cyber security incidents; and
  • ensuring continuous review and improvement of operational risk policies and procedures.
