Purchasing Officer

Due to company workload, this contract role will be tasked with procuring the necessary goods and services in line with the planned demand with consideration of cost and best quality, while maintaining strong commercial relationships with suppliers, and satisfying the needs of customers.
Duties include:
- Optimise the procurement of goods and services in terms of time, cost, quantity, quality and shipping for local and overseas purchases.
- Investigate and develop supplier sources and obtain quotations.
- Contribute to cost reductions and ensure minimum delays in providing essential items.
- Expedite or reschedule deliveries to conform to latest requirements.
- Resolve purchasing and supplier discrepancies including pricing.
- Optimise number of suppliers to control cost.
- Liaise with Company staff in relation to purchasing requests and keep them informed on technical details, price and availability.
Selection criteria / required skills:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Purchasing and Supply are desirable but not mandatory. The degree requirement may be substituted with 45 years of additional purchasing and supply experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in local and overseas purchasing using computer based inventory and ordering system(s).
- Ability to establish rapport with all local and overseas internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Excellent communication skills written and oral.
- Knowledge in Lean, Just In Time (JIT), VMI and consignment stock.
- Highly developed commercial acumen and the energy to rapidly initiate change and achieve results.
Computer skills, including
- Excel; Word; MS Project; PowerPoint; and equivalent MRP/ERP experience, for example SAP, Oracle, etc.
