    About Market Development Facility (MDF)


Market Development Facility (MDF) is an Australian Government funded multi-country initiative which promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries.

We connect individuals, businesses, governments, and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth.


MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.

The Opportunity
MDF is seeking a strategic and innovative thinker to help deliver MDF's learning and strategic agenda.

This will involve a diversity of tasks, but particularly analysis on themes relating to business and financial innovation, regional economic development, climate change, women's economic empowerment, food security and poverty reduction.

A key part of this role is to coordinate MDF's market intelligence gathering.

This entails working with our in-country teams to generate market insights that help our stakeholders understand how economic trends are affecting MDF's countries.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Initiative Management and Delivery

  • Work with MDF's Core Leadership Team (CLT) to assist in the delivery of MDF's program objectives across multiple sectors, with a focus on climate change and inclusive growth.
  • Act as "surge" support to assist country team implementation agendas, across MDF countries as required.
  • Project manage and provide administrative support to CLT members to manage ad hoc events and project activities.

Strategic Communication and Learning

  • Coordinate MDF's market intelligence agenda, including providing input into research priorities, project managing research and analysis, and preparing high quality written and verbal outputs to share with our stakeholders, including DFAT and MFAT.
  • Proactively communicate lessons learned and MDF experiences in a simple and tailored market intelligence approach to DFAT both in Canberra and in MDF countries.
  • Support the provision of joint training programs and inter country working groups.

Mentorship and Capacity Building

  • Provide mentoring and support to other MDF staff on a range of issues relating to economic analysis, relationship building, partnership development, private sector development, sustainability and reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of and keen interest in economic trends in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Formal qualifications in a field related to economic development / private sector development / business or demonstrated relevant experience in one of these fields.
  • Experience working in project management.
  • The ability to generate broad concepts and ideas supported by strong research and analytical skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and organisations across countries and time zones.
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, and to balance competing priorities.
  • Desirable skills and experience:_
  • Experience working on large DFAT facilities and programs.
