The Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR) is the Department's economic and statistical research branch on communications, arts, cities and regions.

It supports evidence-based policy and program development and advice and stimulates informed discussion on portfolio issues. BCARR also produces a number of publications through its research program. For examples of BCARR publications, see the web page.

The opportunity we have available

The market analyst role sits within the Communications, Arts and Market Analysis team. This team is responsible for producing forward-looking economic, market, and industry research to support evidence-based policy development.

The team is responsible for monitoring and reporting on domestic and international developments in the communications and technology space.

The market analyst role will contribute to a mix of longer-term research projects and shorter-term requests for advice from stakeholders.


This could involve tasks like analysing technical aspects of new communications technologies such as low earth orbit (LEO) satellites or 5G, or regularly presenting to policy areas on new consumer, technology and market developments.

What will you do?

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to forwardlooking market and industry research and analysis to build the Communications and Post sector evidence base.
  • Research and monitor current and emerging industry, market and technology issues in Australia and internationally.
  • Analyse and interpret company financial information and market information in the context of new and existing policies.
  • Regularly communicate findings to an engaged group of policy staff and technical experts.
  • Work collaboratively in a supportive team that is committed to producing high‐quality research and analysis.
  • Liaise and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
