The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia's audiovisual archive, telling the national story by collecting, preserving, and sharing audiovisual media, the cultural experience platforms of our time.

The collection itself dates back to 1935, making it one of the world's oldest audiovisual collections.

It is also one of the country's most used cultural collections, with around 125 million views of collection content each year.

The NFSA is in a period of significant change.

Following increased Government investment, the institution is in a process of digital transformation, establishing the NFSA as Australia's most dynamic and valued cultural organisation.

We continue to work on developing a stable, secure, and future-proof workforce across our four physical sites based in Canberra and Mitchell in the ACT as well as in Sydney and Melbourne.

We are also undergoing a program of business improvement for many of our corporate systems to improve efficiency and reduce manual handling.

Our People & Culture (P&C) Team is a critical part of the NFSA's transformation.

The team partners with managers across the organisation to achieve our strategic goals, with deep networks and a strong partnership approach to all of its functions.


The team consists of 1 x EL2, 3 x EL1, 2 x APS 6 and 2 x APS4 staff members and delivers all elements of human resources to the NFSA including workforce planning, payroll, learning and development, Work Health, and Safety (WHS), wellbeing, recruitment, performance management and HR reporting.

The team is responsible for leading and managing NFSA's current and future workforce, including driving the strategic future growth and culture of the NFSA.


The Opportunity
The People and Culture Advisors are responsible for providing HR advice and assistance to the NFSA.

The roles require someone who is enthusiastic and keen to learn, can problem solve, and work as part of a small team to deliver quality outcomes.


Job Details

Under general direction undertake the following duties:

  • Provide People and Culture (P&C) services to the NFSA on a range of P&C related functions including recruitment, learning and development, and health and wellbeing, while escalating any complex matters to senior team members.
  • Assist in general HR administrative tasks associated with the delivery of general P&C systems and services, including:
  • updating position descriptions,
- undertaking policy and legislative research as necessary,
- formatting documentation,
- maintaining ServiceNow ticketing requests,
- assisting with staff onboarding and induction,
- monitoring probation compliance,
- generating organisational charts as requested,
- monitoring and updating the staff parking register; and
- processing invoices and maintaining the team budget sheet.

  • Provide correct and accurate advice to staff and managers when required, and update team communication on internal platforms e.g., SharePoint and internal newsletter.
  • Actively participate in a variety of small term projects in maintaining, developing, and promoting HR related activities.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting a range of HR related functions in providing efficient and effective outcomes.
  • Welldeveloped organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance workload whilst meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated communication and stakeholder management skills and in being an active member of a small team.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required:

  • Background or interest in human resources is desirable.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this position you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check
The other eligibility that may be included in a job would also include the following:

  • Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.
  • Obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
