Description:


This role reports directly to the Payroll Manager and is responsible for ensuring end-to-end timely and accurate processing of pays and employee benefits.

This position plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of payroll to 1000+ employees across a large organisation of 11 entities, covering 23 sites.

While the Payroll Manager has key responsibilities to ensure this function is effective, timely and accurate, the Assistant Payroll Manager will take responsibility for supporting the manager, and attending to more complex and sensitive payroll activities, as well as mentoring and co-leading the team.

Proactively manage customer and stakeholder relationships whilst responding to queries & maintaining quality of service

Provide technical advice on payroll and on the various industrial instruments and multi-enterprise agreements to senior staff and Business Managers.

Calculate and prepare termination figures, redundancy payments, leave loading, annual salaries for averaged staff, complex backpays, taxation and other payments.

Prepare reports associated with the fortnightly pay cycle; including but not limited to variation reports; monthly reports; audits, cross-check and balances for senior executives and business managers.

Undertake audits and reviews as directed by the payroll manager.
Verify the monthly accruals for salaries and benefits including leave entitlements
Lead with a change, coaching, and mentoring approach to team development. Create a positive and inclusive team culture, encouraging empowerment and providing exceptional customer service.
Attend to the day-to-day management of the payroll diary and inbox.

Prepare for the fortnightly pay by communicating with the wider team, under the direction of the Payroll Manager and preparing actions and responsibilities in the leadup to payday.

Be a specialist contact for site administrators on matters pertaining to all aspects of the payroll function.
Provide advice to HR, site admins and employees on MEA interpretation, pay and entitlements.

Provide ongoing support to the Payroll Manager in all aspects of payroll processes and system improvements, internal and external audit and coaching of other payroll specialists.

All employees are responsible for ensuring the workplace is free from sexual harassment and must not engage in any behaviour that could amount to sexual harassment.

Any other reasonable direction that is within the limits of your skills, competence, training and/or experience as given by the Payroll Manager, the Director of People and Culture or by Chief Financial Officer.


Skills and Experiences:

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Committed Christian who is actively involved in their local Evangelical Christian Church.

11101NAT Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, and/or possession of skills and competencies, evident over 3+ years in a payroll function, would be highly regarded.

Impeccable communication skills.
Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Professional suite (particularly Excel, Word)
Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer.
Well organized and efficient and the ability to multi-task
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Willingness to learn new skills.
Team oriented person who can focus on the details.
Responsible, honest and trustworthy
Strong auditing skills and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

Up to date knowledge of Payroll legislation, systems, and processes, as well as extensive knowledge of Australian Taxation, Superannuation, and Workers Compensation laws.


Other valuable skills and experience you may have:
Proficiency using Frontier's iChris/Chris21 payroll system will be highly regarded

Comprehensive understanding of award and enterprise agreement interpretation, particularly as this relates to the Independent Schools NSW Teachers (Hybrid Model) Multi-Enterprise Agreement, 2021 and Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement, 2021.
