About us
The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is responsible for the management and stewardship of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Domain, the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah.
Staff working for the Trust are employees of the Department of Transport within the Botanic Gardens Greater Sydney agency.
About the role
4 x casual opportunities are available within Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney for a First Nations Learning Assistant.
The roles report to the Lead, First Nations Learning and will deliver education and engagement programs with a focus on supporting the interpretation of First Nations culture, history and connection to country.
- This is an Aboriginal Identified role _where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Antidiscrimination Act _
Key knowledge and experience
- Experience in the delivery of innovative education for children and adults
- Delivery of programs and education to people of all ages and backgrounds
- Understanding of the formal structure and workings of the education sector
- Ability to work autonomously in delivering work assignments as directed by the Lead, First Nations Learning
- Experience in delivering education pieces within tight timeframes
- Previous use of a variety of contemporary teaching techniques
- Ability to integrate current knowledge of First Nations heritage, botanical, horticultural and environmental issues, and plantbased arts and crafts into education programs
Essential Requirements
- This role is an identified Aboriginal role and therefore Aboriginality is an essential element including an understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Only Aboriginal peoples are eligible to apply.
