The main focus of this position is to use various data to recognize the specific needs of students requiring extra assistance in literacy and numeracy, and plan appropriate interventions. This includes creating, implementing, providing, and organizing a wide array of customized programs to address individual needs, whether in the classroom, small group settings, or with individual students. The individual in this role is expected to deliver effective, skilled, and empathetic support to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for the students under the care of St Michael's Grammar School.

This position is ongoing, starting in Semester 2 on a full-time basis.

Requirements for the successful candidate:

  • Significant experience in conducting diagnostic assessments and a solid understanding of the purpose and process of diagnostic and standardized tests and assessment methods.
  • Proficient data analysis and critical thinking capabilities.
  • High level of knowledge and experience in the effective teaching and learning of students with specific learning challenges, disabilities, and unique needs.
  • Advanced expertise and skills in delivering specialized programs, guidance, training, and case management within a standard school environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to establish connections, offer advice and support, communicate effectively at all levels of the School, and build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Great understanding and the ability to connect with students requiring extra support in a friendly, nurturing, and supportive manner.
  • Comprehensive understanding of modern approaches to addressing additional learning needs in a traditional setting.
  • Thorough understanding of current policies related to disability awareness and intervention.
  • Deep knowledge of curriculum differentiation.
  • Relevant experience in similar roles is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in co-educational, independent schools is highly regarded.
  • Teaching qualifications (primary and/or secondary).
  • Additional qualification in inclusive education or learning intervention is highly desirable.
  • Valid registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
  • Level II First Aid Certification is beneficial.
  • Anaphylaxis training.
  • National Police History Check (Valid within the last 6 months).
