About the role


We have an opportunity for a
Data and Research Analyst to be part of our Science and Research Unit team.

This is a newly created position within the dynamic Forensic Evidence and Technical Services Command.

The Data and Research Analyst provides high quality analytics to support forensic research projects that lead to informed change to frontline operations.

The role involves utilisation of a range of qualitative and quantitative techniques to identify trends in both business and scientific related projects.


The position complements the existing team within the Science and Research Unit, to provide data analytics to support forensic research projects and proactively inform investigations.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to manage and support complex forensic research projects across a range of stakeholder groups, leading to organisational change and operational outcomes to support the investigation of crime.

Applicants must hold a current driver's licence.

Target Question 1:


Provide an example of when you were able to use data analysis within a scientific research project to produce an operational outcome, e.g.

procedural change. Include in your response the specific data types and software package/s used to complete the analysis.

Target Question 2:


In recent years, the forensic science comparison disciplines (for example fingerprint and forensic firearm feature comparisons) have been under scrutiny, and critical public reports on the foundational validity of the applied methodologies can be found.

The reports note the presence of human bias, which can lead to miscarriages of justice.

Could you outline your knowledge of the criticism and how your skills and experience in data analytics could be of assistance to address or minimize bias.
