The Manager, Corporate Communications (PR & Publicity) will be a creative and media-savvy thinker who can help generate and support communications strategies that engage media, inform consumers and build brand awareness and generate interest in Qantas Airways.


The role will manage and coordinate strategic communications, drive PR and Publicity projects, provide strategic advice on emerging issues, work with the broader media team on crisis management and stakeholder engagement.


You will be comfortable working in a fast paced and ever-changing environment and be able to think and act quickly and offer up different ways of thinking to bring fresh ideas to life.

You will be quick to respond to reactive opportunities and be proactive at identifying opportunities to showcase the Spirit of Australia.


You will regularly draft press releases, statements, Q&As, briefings for interviews, responses to media enquiries and pitches and will also monitor daily operations and business and draft media reports on corporate communications projects.


Working in the Qantas Group Corporate Communications team, this role also includes involvement in broader Qantas Group communication activities, including crisis and issues management.


What you'll bring to the role:

  • Tertiary qualified in PR, communications, journalism or other relevant discipline and/or at least seven years industry experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a keen eye for a story
  • Demonstrated experience at supporting media campaigns at a regional and national level (including major metro dailies, online, TV and radio) on complex and sensitive issues
  • Issues and crisis management experience a plus
  • Experience in helping to executive external communications strategies (e.g. creative campaigns, PR projects)
  • Ability to absorb complex information quickly and to distil widely accessible messages
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to liaise with and build rapport with stakeholders from a variety functions at every level internally and with external partners
  • Demonstrated high level organisation skills and strong initiative
  • Ability to deal with fast-paced environments and excel under pressure.
  • Ability to absorb complex information quickly and distil to widely accessible messages.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to quickly and competently prepare communications material for a wide range of audiences and purposes
  • An ability to work outside of normal business hours and a willingness to travel as required

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in public relations, communications or similar. Tertiary qualifications in public relations, communications or similar.
