What you'll be doing:


Your role as the Health Clinician will provide expert clinical advice, advanced practice skills, leadership and education in suicide prevention, in order to lead the implementation of the Clinical care of people who may be suicidal.


You will achieve this by providing clinical consultation at the request of other health professionals in relation to complex suicide prevention matters as well as establishing an implementation group and documenting an implementation plan.

This imperative role will see you establishing an inpatient suicide prevention procedure through a co-design process and supporting the implementation of the NBMLHD Suicide Care Pathway.


This role will support educators in the Mental Health Service to establish education packages which meet the requirements of the Policy Directive and support inpatient and community teams to determine a process for responding to people with ongoing suicidality.


The position requires extensive knowledge of suicide prevention interventions and the evidence-base that supports best practice and will be required to provide support treatment, coordination and education to mental health teams across the service who work with consumers who may experience suicidality.

Selection criteria to be addressed:

  • Occupational Therapy: minimum Bachelor degree and APHRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • Social Work: minimum Bachelor degree with eligibility for AASW membership
  • Nursing: Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in Mental Health and post graduate qualifications in a Mental Health / Related area or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate
  • Psychology:

Full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist and for Psychologist, a current Senior Psychologist or eligible for Senior Psychologist grading (with no less than 12 months service at the 9th year of service and thereafter rate) and for Clinical Psychologist, an accredited Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with endorsement or working towards endorsement with the Psychology Board of Australia.


  • Demonstrated advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including the engagement of key stakeholders during the implementation of policies or procedures across a variety of mediums and demonstrated ability to provide a consultancy service across a local health district.
