About the opportunity


The Accessibility Adviser provides a comprehensive range of services to students with disclosed disability and/or health conditions (including mental health).

The Accessibility Adviser provides advice and recommendations to the University community, with the aim of assisting students to successfully participate in their university study.


The Accessibility Adviser sits within the Student Academic Success area of the Academic Division which provides a holistic and integrated approach to the provision of programs, services and resources designed to support students' academic and personal development.

At the core of this theme is a commitment to increase higher education participation and to promote student transition, engagement with and equitable access to learning, and ultimately their retention and success.


What you'll do:

  • Assist in the provision of a comprehensive range of services for students with a disability/health conditions including the development of a Learning Access Plan (LAP) for the purpose of detailing appropriate study adjustments.
  • Provide leadership in the development and review of policy, processes and procedures relating to equitable access to learning for students with a disability/health condition.
  • In consultation with the Manager, provide day to day supervision for any support roles as required, including the notetaking service.
  • Provide general information, advice, and appropriate referral where necessary to other University and communitybased services, this may include individual discussions with staff to problemsolve issues.
  • Increase awareness for staff and students about inclusive teaching and learning practices and relevant roles and responsibilities by providing leadership in inclusive education.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training in a health, human services or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with a demonstrated ability to work positively and constructively with students, diverse stakeholders, and within a team.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of people including those living with mental health conditions.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the higher education environment and factors impacting upon student academic success, including an understanding of and empathy with student issues and needs.
  • Experience in managing complex enquiries and problems, and the capacity to exercise judgement in more complex and sensitive issues.

Salary details


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $123,548 comprising base salary within the range of $96,071 to $105,597 plus 17% superannuation.
