We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought, or conflict - we are there on the ground.
About the project:
A transformative driver in Save the Children Australia's (SCA) strategic plan is to 'accelerate our impact by leveraging innovations in digital and data'.
Throughout this strategic period, senior leadership, programs, and initiatives have grappled with the notions of 'innovation', 'scale' and 'scaling', conceptualising and approaching it in different ways and to different extents.
In SCA's international programs division scaling impact through innovation is being trialled in the ANCP portfolio (DFAT-funded annual grants program).
In Asia, in the current ANCP four-year cycle, SCA executed a distinct programming approach through SCA-funded awards designed to foster stronger collaboration, experimentation, and informed risk-taking, focusing on developing new models that benefit children.
This resulted in the following:
- Four awards were selected through a competitive process. 8 Country Offices (COs), which operate under SCI management, were invited to pitch, and 4 (Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) were selected
- Each award receives funding for up to two years

- AUD1m over the two year award period
Where you come in:
This evaluation is an opportunity to gather diverse perspectives and learn from the experiences of the ANCP Asia innovation awards and other innovation ecosystem stakeholders leading efforts to scale the impact of Save the Children's work.
The findings and lessons from this evaluation are to inform the implementation of SCA Strategy and SCI Asia Pacific Strategy, cascade to the ANCP innovation awards portfolio, and inform SCA's innovation journey.
- In this consulting assignment you will:_
- Consolidate and document how SCA/SCI operationalised the ANCP Asia innovation awards across an innovation conceptual framework and engaged the wider innovation ecosystem.
- Identify the ANCP Asia innovation awards planning, design and delivery components that influenced effectiveness.
- Provide 'innovation', 'scale', and 'scaling' operational lessons for SCA/SCI and implementing partners.
- Identify opportunities for ANCP Asia innovation awards portfolio 'scale', 'scaling' and/or 'sustainable scale'
- This consultancy requires:_
- An organisational review of innovation systems and processes, strengths and weaknesses, and results achieved
- A study of ANCP Asia innovation award perceptions and experiences (MO, CO, ARO)
- A study of SCA/SCI's positioning within the broader innovation for development ecosystem
- Four think pieces/products targeting themes identified with SCA and CO staff, e.g., field building for innovation, programming for innovation, alternative financing engagement, and organisational learning about innovation
- Knowledgesharing events including a series of facilitated workshops which bring together key stakeholders across SCA, SCI Asia Pacific, COs, and supporting social enterprises.

- A financial proposal containing:
- An Excel file outlining the proposed budget for the consultancy
