As a Sculptor/coin designer at the Royal Australian Mint you will be part of a highly diverse team of creatives that work to create miniature pieces of art.

Working on themes that range from significant national anniversaries to the Olympics and motorsport, the opportunity to flex your design acumen is available on every project.


Utilising leading modelling and sculpting technologies you will have the opportunities to incorporate your experience and skills into each piece of work created.

Paired with leading edge technologies in the factory you can see your art come to life on something that everyone holds in their hands regularly.


The Coin design team are responsible for the design and delivery of collectible coins and numismatic products offered for sale in the Mint's numismatic business.

The team designs and completes approximately 290 models a year, released in line with revenue expectations, seasonal trends and market demands.


The duties of this position include:

  • Modelling final approved designs using traditional sculpting methods in plasticine and plaster and computer-based 3D modelling tools such as Artcam and ZBrush that meet manufacturing specifications and business requirements.
  • Following processes and working collaboratively with clients and relevant business areas throughout the manufacturing process to ensure the finished designs meet standards, specifications and deadlines.
  • Assisting the Lead Designer and Coin Design Team Leader with mentoring and supporting junior team members and identifying professional development opportunities.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by providing advice on the development of coin design guidelines, technical specifications documentation, processes and systems support.

Qualification
Formal qualifications in related artistic fields such as design, sculpture and visual art.
